Meet Dr Cooper

Care the way I would want it for my own family

I trained in orthopaedics across Sydney and the Hunter through the Australian Orthopaedic Association program, then spent 2025 in two subspecialty fellowships.

  • 2025 · Glasgow, Scotland Stryker MAKO Clinical Hip and Knee Fellowship Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, the largest hip and knee replacement centre in the UK by volume. A year of primary and revision hip and knee replacement and robotic-assisted surgery with Mr Nick Ohly and Mr Herv Vidacovic, with MAKO certification in hip, total knee and partial knee replacement.
  • 2025 · Sydney Knee Arthroplasty and Arthroscopic Reconstruction Fellowship Knee replacement and arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, including ACL surgery, with Dr Bu Balalla and Dr David Broe.

Two things matter most to me. The first is that you understand your condition and every reasonable option, not just the surgical one. The second is that when we do operate, it is done to the highest technical standard, with robotic assistance where it serves your result, and with a rehabilitation plan that starts before you reach the operating theatre.

Surgery is never the first recommendation. Many hip and knee problems are best managed with the right combination of activity change, strengthening and time. When surgery is the right next step, I will explain why, what it involves, and what the evidence says about the results and the risks.

The path to treatment

What to expect, from referral to recovery

Referral

Ask your GP or physio for a referral. You need one before your visit to claim Medicare rebates, and it lets me review your history and imaging first.

Consultation

We go through your story, examine the joint, review imaging together on screen, and make sure you understand exactly what is going on.

Your plan

Non-surgical options come first wherever they are sensible. If surgery is the right step, you leave knowing what, why, when and the honest risks.

Recovery

A structured rehabilitation plan shared with your physio, clear milestones, and review appointments to keep your recovery on track.
